Marked In Flesh by Anne Bishop
The Others #4
Read March 2016
5 stars

For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community…

Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.

But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

After the ending of the last book I couldn’t wait to get my paws on Marked In Flesh. The wait between books is just too long, but it was oh so worth it in the end. As soon as I started this book I was sucked back into the world of The Others and the human pack like no time had passed between the release of Vision In Silver and Marked In Flesh.

Anne Bishop really has a way with words and this story in no different. There is just something so captivating about the characters she creates and the world that she builds around them. As a reader, I feel as if I’m really there with the characters going through everything that they are going through at the same time.

Marked in Flesh starts out a little differently to the rest of the books in the series so far. There are a lot of POVs to consider and while it may be a little confusing as to who is say what and when, but it all makes sense the more you read. I loved reading about how different characters were reacting to the events around them. It really opened my eyes the world that Ms Bishop has created for The Others.

“We will give you some time to decide how much human the terra indigene will keep”

This books also focuses more heavily on The Others and Humans First and Last movement. The struggle between the two has hit an ultimate peak and the consequence from the actions of the HFL were felt by both sides when the Elders decided to take matters into their own hands.

After the way the last book ended I was really excited to see where Meg and Simon’s relationship would go. However with everything else that was going on, I felt that they had very little on page time together. I really wanted to see more of them. Just when I thought something major was going to happen and it didn’t, I think my heart gave out. You can do this to me. It is so unfair. I’m living for the next book. Please hurry I must find out what happens next.

PS. For some strange reason when I finished reading Marked in Flesh the first thing that came to mind was the song ‘Colours of the Wind’ from Disney’s Pocahontas. As strange as it may seem, there are lyrics in there that relate very well to this story.

Lindsay has never been so alone in her life.

After a private investigator exposes her, she’s on the run once more. Her bottomless bag of tricks is empty, and she’s filling it to the brim with regrets and mistakes.

As danger builds, Lindsay can’t stop thinking about her dominant bosses. Maybe Romeo, Hawthorne, and Slade could save her.

Maybe… if they could find her.

Being submissive doesn’t mean being a doormat. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy in bed or that you have low self-esteem

Just when I thought I had it all figured out with Lindsay’s past, the author goes and throws more secrets and mysteries into the plot. I can’t take it anymore, yet I keep coming back for more. It is just that good.

Lindsay has finally returned to her home town, yet it doesn’t feel like home to her because she left ‘home’ behind in the form of her three sexy bosses. However she thinks that they were only using her because they haven’t tried to find her and make contact with her. One mistake on Lindsay’s part soon leads to Slade, Romeo and Hawthorne turning up to her hotel room and demanding answers. Ya finally we get some more of the truth. It seems I’ve been waiting forever for this. But it was worth the wait.

So glad that the guys demanded Lindsay except their help, but in doing so she has to earn their trust. This is going to be one of the hardest things she has even had to do in her life so far.

The secrets that each of the bosses reveal at the end to gain her trust. Didn’t see that coming at all.

And let’s not forget the sex. Still as hot as ever.

However I still want to know what she’s keeping deep down for everyone and what the 3 gentlemen have on her grandfather. Everyone still seems to have one last card up their sleeve that they don’t want to play just yet. So annoying.

Sometimes your first love doesn’t equal your true love.Jason Sladerman is Charlie’s one. For him, she would adjust to a new city, deal with sudden fame and fandom, and change her life. But never did she think she’d have to tolerate sudden obsession.

Until the email.

Now Charlie doesn’t know who’s true and who’s false, who loves her and who hates her. Her one true friend, Lara, is too preoccupied with her own love life to notice Charlie’s faltering. Slade’s too involved in proving his innocence to notice the danger. Reagan doesn’t care about anyone but Slade and will do anything to get to him. And Nate wants Charlie so much he turns a blind eye to everything but her.

Their misguided dreams are their greatest mistake. Murder’s on the horizon, and while everyone holds on tight to their sacred wishes, someone uses that chance to sneak by.

And kill.

In Ketley Allison’s fourth installment of the Snapped Novella Series, the question is no longer who will snap, but who did.

This story had me so twisted around I didn’t know which way to look.

Oh Slade! I don’t know what to think about him. There is just something about him that is really getting on my nerves. I mean he puts on a good face when he has to, but the keep getting this feeling that there is something dark lurking in his soul. He believes what he wants to make himself look and feel good no matter the cost to others. I’m slowly starting to hate him a little. His just… blah I don’t know, but it’s not a good feeling.

I’m somewhat sorry for Charlie that no one believes what see can see so clearly. She is defending herself so hard but I just falling on deaf ears. And the bullshit everyone keeps feeding her; can’t they see what they are doing to her. Well maybe not Nate. Still unsure about him. Maybe he is not as bad as I first thought. Will have to wait and see.

Then the party to top all parties. What happens at the party should stay at the party, but is never how the saying really goes. Someone is bound to find out and then everyone will know. Secrets are bound to be discovered in the future.

This series is getting better and better with each book that I read. Can’t wait to read more.

(Standalone series)

Upon a Midnight Dream, Whispered Music, The Wolf’s Pursuit, When Ash Falls

I haven’t read a historical romance in quite sometime now and am left wondering why? I loved this story. It had a bit of everything that I could possibly ask for in a regency romance. Dashing heroes, strong females, mystery and love.

Our hero is heart broken and believes he is undeserving of love, yet our heroine ‘Snow’ will do anything to prove him otherwise. Yet is only everybody else would give them a chance to find each other rather than be forced into a situation. However love does conquer all.

It would have been nice to have read these book in order just to get a feel for the other characters from previous stories. But it is not necessary to read them in order.

{Review} Beast: Part IV (Beast #4)

Beast, Part IV (Beast, #4)Beast, Part IV by Ella James

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Awww Beast has finally come to an end. I didn’t want it to end, but I had to find out what happened and now I have.

The action scenes and the suspense was right up there. I was always wondering what was going to happening to Beast and Belle and who would be after them. Some of the sex, WOW; very hot stuff not for the faint hearted at all.

However I still felt the end was a little rushed and could have been a bit more fleshed out for my taste.

Overall an enjoyable serial. Well worth the read if you like erotic fairy tales.

This story is of an adult nature containing graphic depictions of sex between consenting adults. This is not a piece of work intended for children or anyone under the age of 18.

Sally is sick and tired of Tim being a wuss and decides it’s time she took control.

This may be a really short read, but it still packs a punch. Because it’s so short I can’t say to much with out giving everything away.
Truth be told, I only read this because the author had an interesting bio on Amazon, but it was still passable.

But I did finish it so that’s a good thing, I guess.
