Synopsis

Yakaterinka Rukovsky, or Russia, as he called her, was perfect and a hundred times better in the net than Jake Holliday could ever hope to be. For the past two years, she had stolen the spotlight from him. But this year, his last year of college, he intended to steal it back from her so that he could have his chance at the NHL.

Getting her to quit college was Jake’s only hope. And he would have if it wasn’t for what happened the weekend before the season began. After what happened that night, Jake was left with two choices: either keep the truth to himself or confess everything, and ruin any chance he had at the NHL.

The more that Jake got to know Russia, the more he realized that he might have to sacrifice his own hopes and dreams of a better life for her. How could Jake keep the truth of what happened that night from her when he was falling in love with her?

Review

I was really enjoying this book until the end. The story sucked me in and I couldn’t get through it fast enough. But the ending just left me confused and angry. I want to know what happened between Jake and Russia from the end of the story to 5 years into the future. I mean why did she do what she did? Why give it all up after everything that she had been through? Why not hear Jake out? I thought their love was like no other and then she leaves without a word. WTF? Seriously.

Then they meet in the future and bamn, end of story again. I feel like this story is unresolved for me. After been drawn in I want to know if they can even resolve their issues. There is something that she mentions when she sees Jake after 5 years and now I’m left wondering what happened in those years.

NB: I have now discovered that there will be a second part this story. Hopefully some of my questions will now be answered

Review

I don’t really know what to make of this book. I enjoyed the story and the plot, the characters struggles to overcome their past differences but I just couldn’t get into it so much as I was hoping for.

The main thing was that I just couldn’t connect with the heroine, Lola. There was just something about her that just wasn’t working for me. I was really wishing she would decided about who she wanted to be. At the start of the book she came across as a strong woman who has conquered her past and then the next chapter she is scared little Hannah again. It some parts it was hard to follow which personality she really wanted to be.

I did enjoy Blue. He was a little different to some other characters. But sometimes I was wishing he would date someone else. It felt like he wasn’t getting his equal in Hannah. I guess you can’t choose who you love in the end.

I’m happy that they finally got together, but maybe not happy with how they went about it.

The truth is that I was falling for them. For Slade, yeah. That was obvious even to me. And for Romeo. How could I not? Even Hawthorne was growing on me. Under different circumstances, if we hadn’t gotten off to such an awful start…

Review

Now this is what I’m talking about. The mystery and suspense is really starting to add up and I’m getting hooked with every book of this series that I read. It’s an addiction.

Lindsay’s past has finally started to catch up with her, now that she is enjoying life and working for her new bosses. Life seems to be finally going good and then something happens one night late at the office and suddenly she wants to run again. However she seems to be in two minds about. Lindsay really wants to tell her bosses about her past because they could help her, but doesn’t want to trouble them. I really wish she would tell them, because then I would know her secret too.

And let’s not forgot the hot bosses. Each one of them is slowly starting to grow on me and each for different reasons. While together they all have some VERY HOT office sex, the more time Lindsay spends with Slade, Romeo and Hawthorne individually, the more their character personal traits are revealed. Hawthorne is really starting to come through and want he does in this book is a real eye-opener.

So glad I have the next book ready to go.

Review

Sweetly Broken jumps straight back into the action. Emery hasn’t seen Grandy since she left him into the hotel room. But that hasn’t stopped her from trying to track down the people that are trying to kill her.

However the plot thickens when secrets are revealed about who Grandy really is. I did not see that one coming. I think when the author can keep me on my toes when reading, it just makes it that more interesting. Keeps me coming back for more.

I’m really starting to hate Caleb. What he did to that poor little dog; that was just cruel. He is one evil man.

It’s good to see that some of Emery’s past is coming back. I just that she is strong enough to handle to truth because she is one kick ass female lead.

But that ending nearly killed me *one-clicking next book*

Synopsis

I’m a cold-blooded killer.

Raised that way by a man named Ryuu after I was found unconscious on his doorstep when I was ten years old.

I have no recollection of my former past, only that Ryuu took me in, raised me like a daughter, and trained me to become what I am today: a silent and deadly predator.

Behind each seductive smile is a calculated plan on how I’m going to kill my next victim.

Deadly with a gun and even deadlier with a blade, I spared no one.

Except one man…

A man who made me question everything I’d ever been told. Whose past was as mysterious as mine, and made me feel things I shouldn’t.

Review

This book had me gripped from the start. I just couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting. Ok so it was short but still before I knew it I had finished and really have to read the next one to find out what happens now.

I don’t read many books about female serial killers so this was really different. I really liked Emery. She just has this way about her. Except for some reason unknown to her, she just can’t kill her latest victim.

Oh the secrets that are revealed along the way. So much happening, yet I loved it all the more for that reason.

Synopsis:

“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… screwed up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs do make a right.”

Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

This is a story of eroticism, horror, and sweet tragedy. It contains graphic scenes, but there’s always light in the darkness.

Review:

I just don’t think that I have the words to do this book justice. I mean I’m still trying to get my head around everything that happened. This book was just one huge emotional roller coaster.

I just couldn’t put it down and when I did, I soon wanted to be reading it again. Somewhere in this dark twisted world I fell in love with Q and Tess, two equally twisted and damaged character. I left everything that they felt. Pepper paints such a vivid world with her writing that I’m instantly transported to another world.

Quintessentially Q is so dark and twisted, but I loved everything about it. It was the perfect continuation of Q and Tess’s story. After everything that they went through in Tears of Tess, I was hoping for a happier story. But it was not to be. I didn’t want things to get worse, but they did. How is it possible for someone to go through so much and have to do it all over again. My heart wept for Tess.

Q is also much darker in this story and we get to see some of what he is capable of but I know he can still go darker. You can see glimpses of it but it’s never enough.

Quintessentially Q is the perfect sequel and I never wanted to end. Yet at the same time I did because I wanted see Q and Tess have their happy ending. However the author stole that from me too. Loved the epilogue by Pepper. Alas I will have to read the next book to find that happy ending.

{Review} Tears of Tess (Monster in the Dark #1)

tears of tess front cover

Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark 1) by Pepper Winters

Rating: 5 out of 5

Tears of Tess is intense, gripping and I never wanted to put it down.

I couldn’t believe that this was Pepper debut novel. I would never have known it was. Everything just flowed so beautiful, like she has been writing for years. It was just….. I don’t know, if this trying to get over it really. My mind is still lost in the book somewhere.

This book is not for everyone. If you want hearts and flowers between the main character look else where. However strangely enough Tess and Q do have some lovely-dovey moments. Yet most of the time the novel deals with some pretty dark themes.

Tess is one strong gal. With everything that she has to deal with I’m surprised she didn’t break earlier. She is the kind of person you want fighting with you, not against you.

Two things I wanted most in the world: for Q to die a miserable death, and for him to fuck me

The first time Q appeared on the scene, I immediately got goose bumps. There was just something about his presents. The way that he holds himself. I just wanted to know all his secrets. He is one complex man.

He was smooth water—effortless in refinement but just like still water, dangerous if you couldn’t swim

I may be a monster but I was her monster.!

Upon starting this novel, I knew what I was heading into, well at least I thought I did. Now having finished it, it was totally different to how I thought it was going to play out. I’m kind of glad, I like a story with a good surprise or twist. Keeps me guessing and coming back for more.

I promise to protect you, ravage you, hunt those who hurt you, and give you the life you deserve. My fortune is yours. My secrets are yours. And I will give you the corpses of the men who hurt you.

{Review} Sempre (Forever #1)

sempre cover

Sempre (Forever 1) by J.M. Darhower

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I’ve been sitting here most of the day wondering what to writing for this review. My head is still lost in it. There is so much happening in Sempre, yet it all flows perfectly from start to finish. There was nothing I didn’t like about it.

Sempre follows the growing relationship between Haven and Carmine, while dealing with the pressures that life is throwing at them. Nothing is ever easy for them and being in the middle of the Mafia war doesn’t make it any easier either.

Every “I hate you” that echoed from her chest was followed by an “I love you” from his lips. Every time she begged him to let go, he told her he would be there forever

Haven is one strong female lead. How she managers to deal with everything that has happened to her is beyond me. Most people would have given up. But Haven believes that there is still hope out there and the future could be better. No has to be better than the hand she was dealt with at birth.

On the other hand, Carmine has the world at his feet yet chooses to throw it all away for nothing. He just seems to be floating through life from day to day. Enjoying the good things, but never really taking anything for granted. Carmine doesn’t start to live until he has something to fight for, something worth losing. Haven is his heaven.

“Colpo di fulmine. The thunderbolt, as Italians call it. When love strikes someone like lightning, so powerful and intense it can’t be denied. It’s beautiful and messy, cracking a chest open and spilling their soul out for the world to see. It turns a person inside out, and there’s no going back from it. Once the thunderbolt hits, your life is irrevocably changed.”

Together they make each other more than just an empty shell. However not everyone is happy with their relationship and soon the danger begins. Everyone wants something from Haven and Carmine. Can they survive it all and still love each other just as deeply. Read more to read out.

It must be noted that this is not a book for everyone. There are some dark and disturbing themes involved in the story. However I feel that the story might fall a little flat without them.

{Review} Beat (The Beat and the Pulse #1)

Beat_AmityCrossThis is the first book I have read by Amity Cross and I’m left wondering why? Why haven’t I read or even heard of this author til now? So sad 😦
Upon starting Beat I immediately fell in love. How could I not when this book in set in my own backyard. Well not quite, but I know the area of Melbourne that is mentioned in the story. I have even walked the very streets the characters on. I must see the exact location now just to see everything clearly.

I believe I many have found one of the first book girl friends to truly love. Ren stands up for what she wants and doesn’t take no shit from anybody, especially Beat’s golden boy Ash Fuller.

Ash is a whole other story, although like Ren he doesn’t like people crossing him and missing with what’s his. He goes to great measures to protect thou that he loves, including Ren, his ‘spitfire’. He makes the ultimate sacrifice just to see Ren safe.

Ash Fuller is my Aussie Travis Maddox.

Just waiting for Pulse now.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m so glad I waited til part 4 was released before I started reading this, or else I don’t know what I would have done. OMG! Yes I want more already.

Beast: part III is were all the action starts to happen, not that there hasn’t been action before. But look out it is really happening now. People and secrets get revealed and new players are gaming into the game, just to mix it all up.

Everybody loves a bit of drama and I just couldn’t put this down. Totally a one-sit-read for me. It will be on to the next part quick-smart for me.
